Dinner theater: It's a Wonderful Life

Taos: Taos Mesa Brewing Mothership, dinner 6:00pm; show 7:00pm
Dinner theater: It

In what has become an annual Taos Christmas tradition, Taos Onstage will delight audiences with a live radio play and dinner theatre production of the holiday classic, It's a Wonderful Life.

In this version of the much-loved 1946 movie, the story unfolds as a 1940s radio show, complete with a Foley artist performing sound effects, period costumes and props, live music, commercial jingles, and a flashing audience applause sign. Actors read from scripts in front of microphones and assume numerous roles using different voices, accents and characterizations.

It's a Wonderful Life is about the life of George Bailey, a generous and well-meaning man who has become too downcast and tired to continue living. It will take help from a lovable angel — who shows George what life would be like if he wasn't born — for George to have a change of heart and understand the true spirit of the holidays.

Swift and entertaining, funny and sentimental, It's a Wonderful Life is all about the values of basic goodness and sacrifice, the pitfalls of greed and commercialism, and the gifts of friendship, love, and belonging that help us feel truly connected in a society.

Written by Joe Landry, It's a Wonderful Life is directed by Dianne Davis and features an ensemble cast of local actors.

The play will be performed on Tuesday and Wednesday, Dec. 18 and 19, at Taos Mesa Brewing in El Prado. The evening starts at 6:00 p.m. with a festive holiday buffet dinner provided by Taos Mesa Brewing. The performance begins at 7:00 p.m. and includes one intermission.

Tickets for the dinner and play cost $30, and reservations are required since all seats are reserved. Tickets may be purchased online at, or by calling 575-224-4587. There are a limited number of play-only tickets for $15 each, available by calling 575-224-4587. Contact for more information.
