Theater: Proof by David Auburn

Taos Onstage presents Proof, by David Auburn, a compelling and witty study of a gifted young woman coping with the fragility of intellectual brilliance. In this Pulitzer Prize winning play, the main character, Catherine, must adjust to the death of her father, a brilliant professor of mathematics who had crossed the thin line from genius to insanity. Having been his caregiver at the cost of interrupting her own formal mathematics career, Catherine now must step out of her father's shadow and into her own life. A mystery about the authorship of an important math proof found among the papers in their home explores the human instinct toward love and trust as it ponders how the gifts and burdens of genius are passed on. As Catherine strives to prove the authenticity of the math proof, she must come to terms with her fear of following in her father's footsteps, both mathematically and mentally.

Performances on November 18-21 and 25-28 at the Taos Onstage Theater, 101-A Camino de la Placita in Taos at the corner of Paseo del Pueblo Sur in Cantu Plaza (formerly JR Clothing). Thursday, Friday, and Saturday performances at 7:30 p.m.; Sunday matinee performances at 2:00 p.m.
