The rich earth of this mysterious and sacred landscape of Ghost Ranch is the starting point for the class—from the brilliant geological formations, the earth’s clay, and the yucca paintbrush. After thanking the earth and gathering the clay, you will learn how to prepare it and coil it into pots, then fire your pots in ways traditional to the Pueblo potter. Join in the rare opportunity to experience the potter’s relationship to the earth, which is rooted in respect and honoring, and carry the earth of northern New Mexico back to your homes as micaceous pots.
The workshop is led by Clarence Cruz of Ohkay Owingeh pueblo. A graduate of the University of New Mexico, he has been honored with the Lifetime Achievement Allan Houser Legacy Award, honoring pueblo potters.
Please note that workshop packages at Ghost Ranch include tuition, course materials, lodging and meals together in a single rate.
